Regenerating a Historic Tea Estate
Sri Lanka’s Largest Private Tea Rehabilitation Project
Aadya is situated within one of Sri Lanka’s largest privately led tea estate rehabilitation initiatives. Once degraded and underutilised, this historic estate is being carefully restored through sustainable agricultural practices, biodiversity enrichment, and long-term land stewardship.
The rehabilitation programme prioritises:
- Soil regeneration and moisture conservation
- Responsible tea cultivation using traditional and regenerative methods
- Intercropping and layered ecosystems to strengthen biodiversity
- Protection of natural water sources and surrounding forest buffers
- This is not a short-term intervention, but a commitment to continuity, ensuring the estate remains productive, resilient, and ecologically balanced for decades to come.

Employment, Skills, and Community Continuity
The restoration and ongoing operations of Aadya are powered primarily by local labour, creating stable, dignified employment across tea cultivation, estate maintenance, hospitality, culinary operations and guest experiences.
Aayusha is built on the belief that luxury should uplift, not displace. Many who care for the land are from families that have lived and worked in the region for generations. Their knowledge, skills, and lived connection to the estate form the soul of Aadya.

- Solar-charged e-cycles (planned) for guest and staff use

Estate-to-Table and Local Sourcing
Food at Aadya reflects both land and community:
- Ingredients are sourced from local farmers and producers wherever possible
- Estate-grown produce is gradually integrated into the kitchen
- Low food miles support local livelihoods and reduce emissions
- Ethical sourcing standards guide all meat and seafood procurement
- Dining becomes an extension of stewardship, honest, seasonal, and respectful.
Education, Youth and Community Support
Through Aayusha, Aadya actively supports neighbouring villages and families:
- Annual school supply programmes for underprivileged children
- Support for school libraries and learning resources
- Sponsorship of IT education initiatives for village youth
- Community-led village clean-up and beautification programmes
During times of crisis, including the 2025 Cyclone Ditwah flooding, the team at Aadya provided food, essential supplies to surrounding villages, and worked tirelessly to restore damaged road infrastructure, ensuring no community was left unsupported.
