Aayusha – CSR

Giving Life Back to Land, People, and Purpose

At Aadya Tea Bungalows by AAHAASA, responsibility is not an initiative, it is a way of being. Through Aayusha, the CSR and sustainability arm of the AAHAASA Collection, we commit to restoring what time, neglect, and imbalance have taken away, from land and livelihoods to dignity and opportunity, grounded in conscious travel and meaningful sustainable hospitality.

Rooted in the philosophy of regenerative travel, Aayusha guides every decision at Aadya. Our focus is not only on minimising impact, but on creating lasting, measurable positive change, for the tea estate, our team, surrounding communities, and the generations that will follow.

Regenerating a Historic Tea Estate

Sri Lanka’s Largest Private Tea Rehabilitation Project

Aadya is situated within one of Sri Lanka’s largest privately led tea estate rehabilitation initiatives. Once degraded and underutilised, this historic estate is being carefully restored through sustainable agricultural practices, biodiversity enrichment, and long-term land stewardship.

The rehabilitation programme prioritises:

  • Soil regeneration and moisture conservation
  • Responsible tea cultivation using traditional and regenerative methods
  • Intercropping and layered ecosystems to strengthen biodiversity
  • Protection of natural water sources and surrounding forest buffers
  • This is not a short-term intervention, but a commitment to continuity, ensuring the estate remains productive, resilient, and ecologically balanced for decades to come.

People at the Centre of Regeneration

Employment, Skills, and Community Continuity

The restoration and ongoing operations of Aadya are powered primarily by local labour, creating stable, dignified employment across tea cultivation, estate maintenance, hospitality, culinary operations and guest experiences.

Aayusha is built on the belief that luxury should uplift, not displace. Many who care for the land are from families that have lived and worked in the region for generations. Their knowledge, skills, and lived connection to the estate form the soul of Aadya.

Our commitments include:

  • Fair employment and equal opportunity practices
  • Skills development and long-term career pathways
  • Staff welfare initiatives supporting families and education
  • A culture of respect, inclusion, and shared pride in place

Low-Impact Energy and Mobility

Aadya is steadily transitioning towards a low-impact energy model, aligned with AAHAASA’s long-term sustainability vision.

Initiatives include:

  • Solar electricity to reduce grid dependency
  • Solar-powered hot water systems
  • Solar-charged e-cycles (planned) for guest and staff use

Each step is taken with long-term resilience in mind, ensuring uninterrupted guest experiences while reducing environmental footprint.

Estate-to-Table and Local Sourcing

Food at Aadya reflects both land and community:

  • Ingredients are sourced from local farmers and producers wherever possible
  • Estate-grown produce is gradually integrated into the kitchen
  • Low food miles support local livelihoods and reduce emissions
  • Ethical sourcing standards guide all meat and seafood procurement
  • Dining becomes an extension of stewardship, honest, seasonal, and respectful.

Education, Youth and Community Support

Through Aayusha, Aadya actively supports neighbouring villages and families:

  • Annual school supply programmes for underprivileged children
  • Support for school libraries and learning resources
  • Sponsorship of IT education initiatives for village youth
  • Community-led village clean-up and beautification programmes

During times of crisis, including the 2025 Cyclone Ditwah flooding, the team at Aadya provided food, essential supplies to surrounding villages, and worked tirelessly to restore damaged road infrastructure, ensuring no community was left unsupported.

Conservation and Biodiversity

Protecting What Is Rare

Aadya forms part of a sensitive hill country ecosystem. Conservation efforts focus on habitat protection, reforestation, and encouraging biodiversity through responsible land management.

By preserving natural buffers, reducing chemical inputs, and allowing ecosystems to regenerate, Aadya supports flora and fauna that depend on these landscapes, quietly, without spectacle.

A Living Commitment

Aayusha at Aadya is not static. It evolves as the land heals, communities grow, and understanding deepens.

Guests who stay at Aadya Tea Bungalows by AAHAASA become part of this journey, not as observers, but as respectful participants in a living estate shaped by care, responsibility, and continuity.
